Manage WordPress core and maintenance mode
Review the site URL and version, choose update behaviour and enable maintenance mode.

What this is for
- Check the registered URL and file path.
- Manage WordPress core updates.
- Show a maintenance page during planned work.
Before you start
- Take a fresh backup and check that themes and plugins support the target WordPress version.
- Use staging first for an important production website.
Take care
Do not change the Site URL casually. A wrong value can lock users out or create redirect loops.
Steps

Create a fresh backup before a core update.

Open Toolkit and choose General.

Confirm the Site URL and File path match the intended installation.

Review the installed version and update policy.

Apply an update only after checking theme, plugin and PHP compatibility.

Enable Maintenance mode for planned work and disable it as soon as testing is complete.
Check it worked
- Toolkit reports the intended WordPress version and update policy.
- The homepage, WordPress Admin and important forms still work after the update or maintenance-mode change.
