Enhance file manager

What this is for

  • Navigate the site filesystem.
  • Upload and organise files.
  • Make small text changes without FTP or SSH.

Before you start

  • Confirm the selected website and folder; /public_html normally contains public site files.
  • Take a backup before replacing, editing or deleting application files.

Take care

Create a backup before replacing application files. File changes take effect immediately.

Steps

  1. 1

Open Files and navigate to the intended directory, normally public_html for public web content.

  2. 2

Use New to create a file or folder, or Upload to add local files.

  3. 3

Select an item to open available rename, move, download or delete actions.

  4. 4

Open a supported text file in the editor and make the smallest required change.

  5. 5

Save, test the website and restore the previous version if the result is wrong.

Check it worked

  • The new or edited file appears in the intended folder with a plausible size and date.
  • Open the affected page and confirm the change is correct without exposing a private file.
