Change the main cPanel password

Use Password & Security and update only the clients that share the main account login.

Where Tools → Preferences → Password & Security

Before you start

  • Have the current password and secure storage for the replacement.
  • Confirm how your provider’s portal login interacts with cPanel; they may use separate credentials.

Steps

  1. 1

    Open Password & Security.

  2. 2

Enter the Old Password, then a unique strong New Password and its confirmation. Password Generator can help; store the result before submitting.

  3. 3

Click Change your password now only when the entries match and you have saved the new credential privately.

  4. 4

Test a fresh cPanel login and update authorised clients that use the main account password. Separate mailbox, database-user and WordPress passwords are not necessarily changed by this action.

  5. 5

Review any additional authentication option shown, such as Digest Authentication. Do not enable an unfamiliar option unless your service requires it.

Old password, new password and confirmation are separate fields.

Check it worked

  • You can sign in again with the intended method.
  • Review security notifications and reconnect authorised clients that were affected.
