Delete files and recover them from Trash

Use recoverable deletion where possible and understand when recovery ends.

Where Tools → Files → File Manager

Before you start

  • Confirm the selected files are no longer needed and have a backup.
  • Do not delete unfamiliar account directories such as mail, etc or ssl.

Steps

  1. 1

Select only the intended file or folder in File Manager.

  2. 2

Click Delete and read the confirmation. Leave any option to skip Trash or permanently delete disabled if you want the normal recovery route.

  3. 3

To recover a trashed item, click View Trash. Select the correct item and use Restore. Check its original destination and any overwrite warning.

  4. 4

Use Empty Trash only when you accept permanent removal. Trash can consume storage until emptied, but that does not make immediate purging safe.

  5. 5

Confirm only after checking the names and directory. A folder deletion includes its contents.

Delete, Restore, View Trash and Empty Trash are distinct actions.

Check it worked

  • Check the live folder after deleting or restoring.
  • Test any affected website links. If an item bypassed Trash or Trash was emptied, check a suitable backup rather than expecting Restore to recover it.
