Manage spam filtering safely

Mark suspicious mail and use a reviewable spam folder before considering automatic deletion.

Before you start

Record the existing settings and decide who reviews spam.
Lower score thresholds generally flag more messages, including some legitimate ones.

Open Spam Filters and review Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam, the main SpamAssassin control.

Use its threshold configuration link if you need to adjust sensitivity. Make a small, recorded change.

Review Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box). This keeps incorrectly flagged mail recoverable.

Expand Additional Configurations only for a specific allowlist or blocklist need. Check sender patterns carefully before allowing an entire domain.

Use each section’s apply/save control where shown. Some switches apply immediately, so do not toggle them simply to inspect the screen.

Treat Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete) as a separate decision; it removes matching mail rather than leaving it for review.
