Point a hostname at a changing IP address

Use Dynamic DNS for an authorised device or network whose public address changes.

Where Tools → Domains → Dynamic DNS → Create

Before you start

Confirm cPanel is the authoritative DNS host for the chosen domain.
Your router or updater must support the update method. The generated update URL is a credential and must remain private.

Open Dynamic DNS and click Create.

Enter a subdomain prefix, such as office, and check the domain beside it. Use an unused name, not your live website or mail hostname.

Open Manually enter an IP address if you need to set an explicit initial address. Enter the device/network’s real public address, not a private LAN address.

Copy the resulting private update URL into the authorised router or updater according to its instructions. Do not paste it into a public document or support screenshot.

Use the list to review the current IP and configuration. Update or remove access when the device is retired.

Add a Description identifying the device, then click Create only when ready.

Choose a new subdomain prefix and optional initial IP before creating DDNS.

Trigger an update from the intended device and check the hostname resolves to its current public IP.
Confirm the updater works after a connection change. DNS does not itself open firewall ports or make a private service safe to expose.
