Choose the PHP version for a website

Find the active PHP version and use the correct control for your hosting configuration.

Where Tools → Software → MultiPHP Manager / Select PHP Version

Before you start

  • Back up the website and check its application/plugin compatibility with the proposed PHP version.
  • Use a maintained version supported by your provider. An old version appearing in a dropdown is not a recommendation to use it.

Steps

    Open MultiPHP Manager and locate the domain. Read its current version and whether it inherits a setting.

    Do not alternate between the two tools blindly. If the domain’s effective version is unclear, ask support which manager controls it. Record the old setting before saving a change.

    After the change, test the home page, administration, forms and any checkout. Check error logs if a page fails. Revert to the recorded working setting if necessary while resolving compatibility.

    For a change managed here, select only the intended domain’s checkbox. Choose the compatible version in the PHP Version selector, then review the selected domains before Apply.

    If your provider uses CloudLinux PHP Selector, open Select PHP Version instead. The observed account page explains that its default applies to all domains and offers Per Domain Settings. Check the scope before changing anything.

    PHP Selector has a separate account-level scope and extension controls.

Check it worked

  • Confirm the effective version in your application’s system information or with support.
  • Check scheduled PHP jobs separately: their command-line PHP executable may differ from the website runtime.
