Choose the right backup or restore
Understand full account backups, partial backups and the separate JetBackup tool before protecting or restoring data.
Where Tools → Files → Backup Wizard
Before you start
- Decide what you need: an account archive for migration, website files, a database, or email forwarding/filter settings.
- Keep a current backup outside the hosting account, in private storage.
Steps
-
1
Choose Back Up to make a copy. The next screen separates Full Backup from partial options for Home Directory, Databases, and Email Forwarders & Filters.
-
2
A full backup is an account archive. On its generation page, choose the destination and notification option before generating it. Wait for completion before downloading the finished archive.
-
3
For a partial backup, select the category and then the available download for your directory, database or domain. Keep the file unchanged and label it with the date.
-
4
Choose Restore only if you already have a compatible partial backup. Select its category, choose the file from your computer, and check it carefully before using Upload. Restoration can overwrite newer data.
-
5
Open Backup Wizard under Files. The first screen offers Back Up and Restore; these perform different jobs.
Choose Back Up to make a copy, or Restore to upload a partial backup. -
6
For a full account restoration, contact your hosting provider. Backup Wizard does not restore full account archives. For host-generated recovery points, open JetBackup 5 and check available dates and data types.
The alternative Backup interface also separates full and partial backups.
Check it worked
- Check the download finished and the saved file has a plausible size. Keep a private off-server copy.
- After a restore, check the website and database-dependent functions. Where mailbox files were restored, also check recent messages.
