Edit or remove a DNS record
Find the correct record, open its Edit control, and change only the intended values.
Where Tools → Domains → Zone Editor → Manage
Before you start
- Copy the existing name, type, TTL and value somewhere safe so you can undo a mistake.
- Confirm this cPanel server hosts the authoritative DNS zone.
Steps
-
1
Open Zone Editor and click Manage beside the domain.
-
2
Click the pencil-labelled Edit button at the right of that record’s row. Here, Edit is a visible button—not an Enhance-style three-dot menu.
-
3
Click Save Record for that row, or Cancel to leave it unchanged. Avoid Save All Records unless you intend to save every pending edit.
-
4
To remove a record instead, use Delete on the matching row and read the confirmation carefully before accepting. Keep its old values if you may need to recreate it.
-
5
Use Filter by name and the A, CNAME, MX, SRV or TXT filters to narrow the list. Match both Name and Type; several records may have the same name.
Every record has its own Edit and Delete controls. -
6
Change the required field in the blue editing row. For MX records, check both Priority and Destination. Changing a website A record is not the same as changing mail delivery.
Edit opens this row in place; Save Record applies the selected edit.
Check it worked
- Search again and confirm the intended value is shown.
- After caches expire, test the affected service. If it fails, restore the recorded old values and ask support to check the authoritative DNS response.
