Find and maintain an existing WordPress website

Use the correct management tool and take a backup before updates or removals.

Before you start

Have a current backup of both WordPress files and its database. For a busy shop, arrange a safe update window.
Confirm the website URL and folder. Several tools may discover the same installation; they are not separate copies.

Open WordPress Management and select Installations. If an existing site is missing, click Scan to look for installations in the account. Do not install WordPress again merely because the list is empty.

Select the intended installation after it appears. Match its domain and path, not just its display title.

The Plugins and Themes tabs help manage detected installations. Check the selected sites before bulk changes; disabling a required plugin or changing a theme can alter the public site.

Test the public site and WordPress administration after each update. Check forms, checkout and scheduled tasks as well as the home page. Use the current backup if rollback is necessary.

Treat Detach and Remove as different actions. Detach stops Toolkit management; Remove can delete the installation. Read the exact confirmation and never use Remove to solve a discovery problem.

Use Updates to review available updates. Update a test copy first where possible, and apply changes in small groups so a problem can be traced.
