Review website compression settings
Understand the Optimize Website options before changing response compression.
Where Tools → Software → Optimize Website
Before you start
- Record the existing setting and ask support which compression layer serves your site.
- A CDN, LiteSpeed or the application may already handle compression.
Steps
-
1
Open Optimize Website and review the current Compress Content setting.
-
2
Disabled leaves this particular cPanel compression setting off; it does not prove every other compression layer is disabled.
-
3
Compress All Content applies broadly. Compress the specified MIME types limits this setting to the listed content types. Choose the scope appropriate for the site.
-
4
Click Update Settings only when ready, then test page responses and downloads. If behaviour changes unexpectedly, restore the recorded setting and ask support about the server’s compression configuration.
-
5
If using specified types, review the MIME Types field carefully. Do not enter file extensions where content types such as text/html are expected.
Choose the compression scope, then use Update Settings.
Check it worked
- Check representative page and asset responses with a suitable diagnostic tool or support.
- The website and downloadable files still load correctly.
