Create a limited email, FTP or Web Disk user
Use User Manager for service subaccounts—not additional full cPanel administrators.
Where Tools → Preferences → User Manager → Add User
Before you start
- Decide exactly which services and folders the person needs.
- Use a contact email belonging to the intended user and grant the minimum required access.
Steps
-
1
Enter Full Name, Username, the appropriate Domain and Contact Email Address. Check the complete resulting identity.
-
2
Under Services, enable only the required Email, FTP or Web Disk service. Review quota settings and, for file services, the allowed Directory. A home-directory scope is much broader than a single website folder.
-
3
After creation, use the matching user’s management controls for future changes. Removing a user/service can remove associated data or access, so review the confirmation and preserve required files/mail first.
-
4
Open User Manager and review existing users before clicking Add User.
User Manager lists service identities and provides Add User. -
5
Choose how the password will be set: the user’s email-based setup route when available, or a securely provided strong password. Never publish the password in a guide or ticket.
Enter the user identity and choose how they will set their password. -
6
For Web Disk, choose Read-Only or Read-Write according to the user’s job. Check all enabled services before Create; Create and Add Another starts a further user after this one.
Enable only the required services, check directories and permissions, then Create.
Check it worked
- The intended user appears with only the services you enabled.
- Test the allowed service and confirm the user cannot access unrelated folders.
