Check bandwidth usage

Distinguish transferred data from disk storage and look for unusual trends.

Where Tools → Metrics → Bandwidth

Before you start

  • Know the billing/usage period and your plan’s transfer allowance.
  • A bandwidth total measures transferred data, not the space occupied by files.

Steps

    Open Bandwidth and read the period shown with the current totals.

  2. 2

    Select the relevant period or detail view offered by the screen when investigating a spike. Compare like-for-like dates and services.

    For unusual web traffic, also review Visitors or Raw Access. Large downloads, bots and repeated requests can increase transfer without a matching increase in real customers.

  4. 4

    If approaching a plan limit, contact support with the period and affected service. Do not delete website files as a first response to high transfer usage.

  5. 5

    Review the available graphs and service breakdowns. Web traffic, email and any reported FTP traffic are different contributors.

    Bandwidth reports data transfer, not disk usage.

  • The period and units in your report are clear.
  • Compare subsequent usage after an authorised mitigation, allowing for reporting delay.
