Find what is using hosting storage
Identify large directories before cleaning up or increasing your plan.
Where Tools → Files → Disk Usage
Before you start
- Know whether you are checking total hosting space or an individual mailbox quota.
- Do not delete files directly just because a directory is large.
Steps
-
1
Open Disk Usage and review the summary categories.
-
2
Compare website files, mail, backups and logs. Database storage can be accounted for separately.
-
3
Use File Manager for a confirmed directory or Email Disk Usage for a mailbox. Archive data off-server before removing it.
-
4
Check Trash and old generated backups, but retain a safe backup elsewhere. Allow usage calculations time to refresh after cleanup.
-
5
Scroll to the directory breakdown and expand large directories to narrow down their contents.
Use the storage report to locate the cause before deleting anything.
Check it worked
- Refresh the report later and compare totals with the earlier reading.
- Confirm websites and email still work, and that the account is below its limit.
